       Abuko nature reserve

Abuko is unique among West African wildlife reserves in that it's fenced, well-managed and very easy to reach. It gives a good introduction of the Gambian flora and fauna in it's 105ha (260 acres). Abuko Nature Reserve contains both savannah, with open glades of grassland, and rain forest kind of areas, when freshwater reaches of the River Gambia or there is a high ground water table.

The park also boasts a wide variety of birdlife - some 270 species, many of which are difficult to see elsewhere.  There can be seen also a duiker, porcupine, bushbaby, crocodile and many species of snakes. The weather in Gambia is subtropical with distinct dry and rainy seasons.
