       Kotu

A few kilometres north-west of Serekunda, the Atlantic Coast resorts of Bakau, Fajara, Kotu and Kololi make up the heart of The Gambia's tourist industry. Along this 10km (15mi) stretch of beach lie some 20 hotels, complete with all the touristy trimmings of water sports rentals, a golf course and beaches ideal for swimming and sunning.

We spent a lot of our time on the Kotu beaches. Hotels had their own part of the beach and had also guards to look after the guests and the activities on the beach. Workers from the local resorts came there to play football, to swim or have other sports at late afternoons, and there was also horse riding for the tourists. Fruits were sold by special licenced Fruit seller women.

Warm sun, white coast and an ocean to swim, that's life!
