    Elementary school

We visited an elementary school, and were showed classrooms, library and playground, and at the end of the visit pupils sang for us.
Our travel agency wants to help this school by tourists donating money, pens and such things to the school.

Government policy:

The Gambia Government is committed to upholding the right of every person to basic education, regardless of gender, age, religion or disability. Accordingly, basic education will be open to all. Learning at this level will be geared towards the holistic development of the individual for the positive realisation of every person’s full potential and aspirations.

Things to impove:
1. Improving access to quality education for all, particularly girls, for greater gender equity
2. The re-defining of basic education to embrace Madrassas, non-formal, early childhood and special needs education
3. The expansion of secondary education to absorb a minimum of 50% of the basic cycle graduates
4. Development of life skills and creation of awareness of killer diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis
5. Provision of relevant vocational education and technical training based on labour market intelligence
6. Further re-organisation of the Department of State for Education (DoSE) within the context of the local government decentralisation reforms
7. Better management capacity and professional development at all levels
8. Increased access to higher education, especially of girls and women.
